What is Speed Dating?

You may have seen it on a show, or heard about it from a friend. You may have wondered, exactly what is speed dating? More importantly, will it work?

As a relatively new tactic in the dating game, speed dating events can offer several advantages over conventional social venues. You can meet lots of people at a nightclub or party but half of them might be married already.

Speed dating events let you bypass such hurdles. Plus, organizers of these events will generally sort participants by age ranges, although some cities will have more specialized events for folks with more exact tastes in religion, age, race, or interests.

Even if you do wind up at a table with that creepy guy, you’ll only have to bear it for a few minutes. Usually you’ll spend roughly 5 to 10 minutes with each date, then everyone rotates until you’ve met all the men on offer. At the end you provide the organizer with your list of the lucky guys who are worthy of your contact info, and vice versa. In the case of a two way match, later you get his digits and he gets yours. With no need to reject or be rejected on the spot, speed dating avoids the pressure and awkwardness that you might find on a regular date.

Speed dating provides a nice alternative for folks who might not be comfortable with internet dating. A face to face meeting means you’ll know if he smells bad or has an atrocious accent. Neither will you get those little white lies which abound on the internet. If “average” body type really turns out to mean “the Penguin from Batman, only shorter and more rotund”, you’ll know it immediately.
